ATO appointment sends right signals to SMSF sector

The SMSF Association welcomes the appointment of KPMG Partner Dana Fleming to the role of Australian Taxation Office (ATO) Assistant Commissioner, SMSFs.

Fleming, who joined KPMG in 1992 and became Partner in 2006, has more than 20 years’ experience specialising in the taxation of superannuation funds and managed investments, with her client portfolio including major industry and retail superannuation funds and boutique managed funds.

SMSF Association CEO John Maroney says the appointment of Dana, who has accumulated enormous industry experience in superannuation tax matters, is to be lauded.

“Her knowledge and experience position her well to assume this key role, and we look forward to continuing the successful strategic partnership we have with the ATO with Dana heading its SMSF work.”

Maroney also paid tribute to Dana’s predecessor, Kasey Macfarlane, for her significant contribution to the SMSF sector in her time in her role.

“She has been crucial to the implementation of the new superannuation legislation, forging the SMSF Association-ATO strategic partnership, and for nurturing the ongoing positive relationship between the SMSF sector and the tax office.”
