Panel Discussion: The political state of play

OVERVIEW:

The purpose of the Adelaide local community event is to provide members with opportunity to engage with other SMSF community members as well as be able to undertake professional development to enhance your knowledge in the specialised SMSF sector.

This panel session has been designed to provide an overview of the post-election results and what it means for the SMSF sector. It will also cover aspects of the Royal Commission and ASIC report 575 (SMSFs: Improving the quality of advice and member experiences) that have practical application to the running of advice businesses.

Neil Sparks SSA

Neil Sparks is the National Manager SMSF Strategy, for BT Financial Group.
Neil is acknowledged as an authority on self-managed superannuation funds. He recently completed the Graduate Certificate of SMSF at the Adelaide University and is an accredited SMSF Specialist Adviser.
Neil is a regular speaker on the topic of superannuation with over 15 years’ experience researching, writing and presenting to financial advisers and trustees on the technical aspects and unique strategies available to SMSFs.
Neil is a popular member of the SMSF community.

Kim Bigg SSA

Kim is a Director at Perks, having been with the firm since 2001. He is a Chartered Accountant and has extensive experience in business and taxation matters. Kim focuses on providing his clients with strategic advice relating to business services, taxation, succession planning and superannuation.
He also has extensive knowledge of Self-Managed Super Funds and specialises in working with clients who are keen to transition to retirement or clients requiring succession planning advice. Kim takes a hands on approach to assisting his clients with their financial needs and is proactive in exceeding their expectations. He always ensures that his clients are aware of all the strategic opportunities available and assists them to make the most of the opportunities. Kim is married to wife Kara and they have two children. He is actively involved in the community and is a Board member of both the SMSF Association South Australian State Chapter Committee, as well as the Perks Foundation.

Julie Steed SSA

Julie has over 30 years’ experience in the superannuation industry as a technical specialist, consultant, administration and client services manager.
She is currently employed as Senior Technical Services Manager at Australian Executor Trustees (part of the IOOF group) where she is responsible for the provision of technical information, specialising in small funds.
Julie has gained extensive experience in assisting advisers, trustees and service providers in meeting a wide range of prudential responsibilities and in assisting advisers with the provision of services to clients.
Julie is passionate about helping people with superannuation and is actively involved in educational aspects of the industry, both for practitioners and individuals.
Julie is a Senior Fellow of Finsia, a Fellow of ASFA and an accredited SMSF Specialist Advisor™ with the SMSF Association.
