The SMSF Association is celebrating the first graduates from its newly launched, structured course for the acclaimed SMSF Specialist Advisor (SSA®) accreditation—marking a significant evolution in professional education for the SMSF sector. A total of 37 participants successfully completed the program.
Since its inception, more than 2,300 professionals have graduated from the SSA program – a tangible representation of the SMSF Association’s continued commitment to raising the professionalism of the sector.
Responding to strong demand for a more guided, contemporary learning pathway, the Association has introduced a cohort-based model featuring six, 12-week intakes per year. This redesigned structure keeps the SSA® course in line with leading education frameworks to ensure the designation retains its hallmark rigour and relevance.
SMSF Association CEO Peter Burgess says the new format is designed to enhance the learning experience without losing the flexibility that professionals have long valued.
“This new model strengthens the support and consistency available to participants, helping them succeed in a busy professional environment,” Burgess said.
Widely recognised as the peak credential in the SMSF industry, the SSA designation is respected by peers and trusted by clients seeking high-quality SMSF advice. The introduction of the structured format is expected to further reinforce the course’s standing as the gold standard for SMSF expertise.

With the first students now officially graduated, the SMSF Association says early feedback has been overwhelmingly positive, with the course’s practical, real-world focus underscored by the benefits of structured learning, peer support, and clearer progression milestones.
