All eyes on the family home

Technical Summit 2023

The rising cost of living and housing crisis has led families to rethink the role of the family home – with all eyes on how it can create a housing solution across the generations. This workshop is a technical session that explored the role of the home in aged care and the impact that family arrangements can have for the older parent. This included strategies such as:

  • Options for home care and implications for advice
  • Selling the family home to family at below market value, with older parents downsizing (including downsizer contributions)
  • Younger family members taking an ownership stake in an older parent’s home
  • Granny flat rights
  • Kids moving in when older parents move out.
